Buddhism - local history
Local history
Lately, the London Buddhist Centre in Roman Road has become a very important place for Buddhist life in Tower Hamlets. This building was once a fire station. Now there are lots of different things happening there like school visits, meditation classes and day retreats.
It is has also become the main place for a growing Buddhist ?village?. It has a restaurant, gallery, caf?, gift shop, arts centre, natural health centre and health food store. These businesses are all run as co-operatives, as this is important to Buddhists. A co-operative means everybody does a fair share of the work and gets a fair share of the money.
