Islam - frequently asked questions

Questions people often ask…

What do Muslims believe about death and the after life?
Like Jews and Christians, Muslims believe our present life is a preparation for our next life. When a Muslim dies, he or she is washed, usually by a family member and wrapped in a clean white cloth.  Then the person is buried with a simple prayer preferably the same day.

What do Muslims think about Jesus?
Muslims respect and love Jesus and wait for his second coming. They consider him one of the greatest of God’s messengers. A Muslim never refers to him as ‘Jesus’, but always adds the phrase ‘peace be upon him’. The Qur’an confirms his virgin birth, and Mary is believed to be the purest woman in all creation.

What do Muslims think of other religions?
Islamic law protects other religions.  This explains why non-Muslim places of worship have grown all over the Islamic world.  History shows us lots of examples of Muslims’ peace towards other faiths, in the year 634 the caliph Omar entered Jerusalem, and Islam granted freedom of worship to all religious communities in the city.
