Hinduism - frequently asked questions

Questions people often ask…

What do Hindus believe about creation?
Many very old writings in India’s classical languages (called Sanskrit and Tamil) talk about creation. The Tamil writings (called Thiruvaaachagam) explain that - This huge universe was made from a very powerful but small fire ball, which burst into more than 1 billion pieces. The smallest atom and the largest piece are all made of the same stuff, which was made from that energy. Pieces float in this huge universe just like floating pieces of dust, which you can see in the light. The hot sun, the cold moon, the living earth are all created from the same stuff.

Why do Hindus think it is so important to have a personal Guru?
A Guru is a Hindu teacher or leader.  Gurus have the knowledge, experience and are able to understand very complicated things.  They are able to help other Hindus have a true understanding of God.  They are because important A Guru is like a role model to Hindus, and shows them how to live their life.

Do Hindus believe there is someone like Satan in Christianity?
No. Hindus believe everything happens because of the power and will of God. Everything that happens is not good or bad, only human beings make judgements about whether things are good or bad.

How does a Hindu explain his or her aim in life?
Hindus aim to free their minds from weaknesses by knowing God.  If they are able to do this they will not be harmed by negative thoughts, upsets and worries. This s the first step towards living a life that is calm and in balance with all things.
