God

  • There is only one God
  • God is omnipotent and everywhere
  • God sustains the universe
  • God loves everyone unconditionally

Jesus Christ
Christians believe Jesus Christ was the son of God, sent to save mankind from death and sin.

  • Born in Bethlehem, lived in Palestine
  • Subject to pain, suffering, and sorrow like other human beings
  • Crucified but rose from the dead at the Resurrection
  • His life provides a perfect example of how God wants people to live

Holy Spirit
The Christian scriptures, found in the Bible, teach that allowing the Holy Spirit into our lives brings love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility and self-control.

Origins
Christianity is around 2000 years old and originated in the Middle East as a movement within Judaism, based on the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Statistics
There are over a billion Christians worldwide, around 30 million in Britain, nearly 76,000 in Tower Hamlets.

Diversity
A recent estimate suggested that that there are around 34,000 different Christian groups in the world. It is generally agreed that they fall into three main categories:

  • Catholic
  • Orthodox
  • Protestant

Worship

  • Communion services commemorate the Last Supper
  • The bread represents Jesus’ body and the wine his blood
  • Services can include hymns, Bible readings, sermons, personal and group prayers
