Christianity began over 2,000 years ago in the Middle East. Christianity was the first of the world’s major religions in Tower Hamlets. Today, it has more followers than other religions in our borough. According to the last census, there are around 76,000 Christians in Tower Hamlets. Because of this Christianity has had a strong influence on lots of local things like architecture, festivals, schools and welfare organisations.
